What to do if you need extra support
When studying with us, we want to make sure you have everything you need to succeed in a fitness career. Our dedicated team is here for you if you require any additional help along the way.
How we support you on your course
We aim to support all learners whilst they are working toward a qualification with YMCAfit. Your success is important to us!
Additional Learning Needs
If you have an Additional Learning Need, our team is here to provide extra support, and reasonable adjustments can be applied to your course. Here are the steps:
- 1. During your course onboarding, you’ll be asked to provide any supporting documentation of your specific learning needs. This can be in the form of an EHCP plan, statement of learning needs, or an assessment report from a relevant health professional.
- 2. A Support Tutor will then be in touch to discuss the required support you feel will help you throughout your course. Please note that as a commercial training provider, there may be some reasonable adjustments that we may not have the capacity to accommodate – for example, providing a one-to-one tutor to assist you whilst you are attending the course.
- 3. Following this conversation, a Support Tutor will create a support plan in place for you and notify your course tutor.
- 4. While attending your course, your course tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to suit all learning styles and will regularly check your understanding, both individually and as a group. If you are having any trouble following the lessons, please let your tutor know.
- 5. At the end of your course, a Support tutor will schedule an online session with you. The purpose of this session will be to support you with exam preparation, to help with making adjustments if an assignment or piece of work has not met the course criteria, or to support you with completing any post-course case studies.
Some of the most common reasonable adjustments can include extra time for theory exams, a reader for theory exams, and hard copy manuals in addition to the digital versions of learning materials (not available for all learning needs). Certain reasonable adjustments can be implemented at centre level while others have to be applied for via the Awarding Organisation.
We strongly advise that you provide YMCAfit with your supporting documentation within 24 hours after enrolling onto your course. This will ensure that all the support and reasonable adjustments are in place ahead of you attending day one of your course. Please note that any reasonable adjustments applied for via the Awarding Organisation may take up to 10 working days to be reviewed and applied.
To ensure your needs can be met, we also strongly advise disclosing any additional learning need(s) to the Course Enrolment Officer before enrolling onto your course.
Please note that there is a significant amount of content to learn across each of our courses, and there is always an element of independent study. To support you along the way, you will be given access to digital manuals, digital learning via our online platform, and through attendance of tutor-led training days (online and face-to-face). All courses have multiple assessments including theory exams, worksheets, case studies, and practical assessments.
Should you have any concerns about the course forma and volume of work involved, please schedule a call with a Support Tutor before you enrol. This call will provide an opportunity to ask any questions you have around additional support and delivery of the course to ensure you are confident that the course is suitable for you.

Funding your future
As part of a Government-backed initiative, some courses can be funded by the Advanced Learner Loan. This loan provides a flexible way for students over the age of 19 to pay their course fees. This way, you can start your career without worrying about the cost. For more information, visit our Funding page.
